NEW
HOPE FOR ACADEMIC UNDERACHIVERS
ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
of
MODERN KNOWLEDGE SCHOOLS
The
Academic Enrichment Program (AEP) will be the first program of its
kind in Bahrain, for addressing the special needs of students who may
experience difficulty in demonstrating their true potential. Mrs.Kazarooni
noted that even very bright children may experience
distractions, and learning difficulties, and face frustration, and
confusion in traditional educational settings, where specialized
support is limited or not available.
Mrs.Kazarooni
emphasized that all children can learn when the educational program is
adjusted to their individual needs.
As a long time advocate for
children with special needs, she sees this program as serving as a
model for much needed services in the area. All children entering the program will have average of higher
intelligence and in many cases a history of underachievement in
other schools. When children are served early enough in their school years, many will
make successful adjustments to other school program as they develop
the capacity to benefit from larger group instruction.
The Academic
Enrichment Program operates within the Modern Knowledge
Schools, which offers an American curriculum in English. A full
range of academic subjects in offered. It benefits from its own computer laboratory and an
abundance of
specialized materials designed to support each student's
individualized learning needs. Classes will range from 6 to 10
students, depending on individual
needs of the group.
High expectations for success are established, and each student is
encouraged to progress as quickly as possible.
Highly trained educational specialists provide the intensive academic
program in cooperation with a team of experienced American consultants
who have established similar programs in the U.S. and elsewhere in the
world. Ongoing consultation with parents if offered on how to assist their
child's development at home. Frequent communication between parents and the school is emphasized.
The program will
begin early in October 2001, for children from ages 8 through 12.
Other age groups may be served at a later date. Parents and schools
