Modern Knowledge Schools offers an enriched American curriculum with an international perspective for students N-12. All schools offer academic challenging and student centered programs facilitated by a caring, professional and specialized staff of teachers. MKS strives to empower our students to become critical, independent thinkers with the skills to participate dynamically and successfully in an ever changing global society. MKS is one of the few non bilingual schools in Bahrain.
To connect our learners to the world, Modern Knowledge Schools has developed rigorous and demanding curriculum standards vertically aligned from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The curriculum standards specify what students should know and be able to do. MKS curriculum standards are based on the AERO (American Education Reaches Out) Standards developed by the U.S. State Department's Office of Overseas Schools, the International Society for Technology in Education, The National Science Foundation, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Teachers of English/the International Reading Association and other nationally recognized bodies. The AERO grade level expectations, standards and benchmarks are cross walked and closely aligned with new US Common Core Standards (CCS). MKS is implementing both the English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Common Core Standards. These standards, along with external standardized tests, provide a basis for student assessment and help guide MKS improvement plans, professional development activities and program evaluations.

The kindergarten (N-KG 2) is a time of wonderment and the foundation for all future learning. The MKS curriculum provides for development of social skills, self esteem and academic success. Language and literacy development involves speaking, listening, writing and reading. MKS extends their oral language skills as students listen to and join in reading stories, poems, and songs. Students' creativity is encouraged through play, art, drama and kitchen science. Educational field trips to museums, nature areas and other specialized environments provide students with rich experiences that cannot be duplicated in a classroom setting. Each class is staffed by qualified teachers who utilize best practices and appropriate instructional techniques to encourage student's discovery and learning about themselves and the world around them. All instruction is in English and Arabic language is taught as an integral part of the curriculum.

Elementary School

The elementary school (grades 1 through 5) expands the foundations for academic achievement, personal growth and responsible citizenship. MKS values diversity and supports social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of every student. Students enthusiastically engage in exploration and discovery with the help and guidance of qualified teachers. Students are encouraged to take charge of their own learning and make appropriate choices. The curriculum provides for the continuous development of literacy and understanding in the areas of reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, music, library skills, technology education, Arabic, and physical education. Students remain in self-contained classrooms with their homeroom teacher for core subjects. All instruction is in English; Arabic language, Islamic Religion and Arabic Social Studies are taught by specialist teachers and in accordance with the Bahrain Ministry of Education guidelines. Art, music, technology and physical education are taught by specialist teachers. Upper level students participate in School Safety Patrol and organized athletic activities. .

Middle School

Modern Knowledge Schools Middle School (grades 6 through 8) curriculum is designed to meet the needs of a child as well as an adolescent during the transition from the elementary to the high school. Through a caring and secure environment, the MKS middle school program ensures that all students experience challenge and success. Students are provided with multiple teaching and learning approaches that celebrate their diversity. The curriculum provides direction for what young adolescents should know and be able to do and helps them achieve the attitudes and behaviors needed for a full and productive middle school experience. The academic program is relevant and engaging to students, and provides them with the foundation required for success at the high school level. Student progress is carefully monitored and parent involvement is highly encouraged. Guidance programs ensure that students feel safe and supported during the middle school years. Qualified subject area teachers provide academic instruction in English, math, science and social studies. All core subjects are taught in English; French is a required subject for all students. Arabic Language, Islamic Religion and Arabic Social Studies are mandatory for all students holding Arabic passports. Students participate in art, computer, music and physical education taught by specialist teachers. Students have the opportunity to participate in Middle School Student Council and extra curricular sports activities.

High School

Modern Knowledge Schools High School (grades 9 through 12) curriculum follows an American college preparatory curriculum and/or the IB Diploma program. Our focus is on the development of the whole child through academics (math, science, social studies, English, Arabic and world languages, and physical education) and personal growth through co-curricular activities. Each curricular area has a specific set of learning targets and benchmarks that identify the essential knowledge and skills that once mastered ensure future success. All students, in conjunction with the counselor, develop an individual four year academic plan which helps determine their goals and objectives. Students in grades 9 and 10 follow the traditional college preparatory core academic program of English, mathematics, science and social studies. In grades 11 and 12 students have various options in all disciplines. Students may elect to enter the rigorous two year IB Diploma Program or continue on the equally challenging college preparatory path. Fine arts are an essential part of the curriculum and students may elect to study art, technology and theater and speech and debate. All instruction is in English with the exception of Arabic language, Arabic social studies and Islamic studies. These courses are mandatory for all Arab passport holders and are taught according to the Bahraini Ministry of Education guidelines. High school students participate in many varied after school clubs and activities, including student counsel and extra curricular sports.
