It is with great excitement and joy that we announce our annual grade 8 Challenge Adventure Trip to Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. The Challenging Adventure Trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students and their peers to work cooperatively, grow in their leadership skills, and improve their interpersonal communication abilities. The trip will be 19 to 22 February, 2020. While on the trip, students will have personalized training in rock climbing, archery, ropes courses, mountain biking, and team-building activities. They will be lead by an experienced team of professional Camp Leaders from the UK. Modern Knowledge Schools staff will also be working directly with the students during their camp adventure.

Hands-on learning experiences outside of the classroom are vital to student personal growth and academic development. This particular experience is designed for the maximum benefit of our students and the communities they will visit. Through this carefully planned and supervised international trip, we will aid our students in fulfilling the mission of MKS- becoming respectful, responsible, global minded citizens- lifelong learners who can contribute to a peaceful world! Thank you for your commitment to education at MKS and your participation in this important program!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the price?

The total trip cost includes airfare, airport transfers, all ground transportation, camp accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, all itinerary activities and programs, and comprehensive travel insurance.

What kind of food will they be eating?

We cook onsite and steer away from fast-foods, preferring to provide wholesome and nutritious food at meal times. There will always be a vegetarian option available and all food is halal as standard. Providing us with dietary information on the mandatory consent form will ensure that we can cater to any specific needs your child may have.

What is the camp like?

It’s a breath of fresh air, especially if you live in the city! It’s a green and sheltered site right in the heart of the mountains, but close to the city and its facilities including the local hospitals. The area is steeped in local history and tradition and we feel very privileged to be able to share the camp and surroundings with our guests.

Who will look after the children?

MKS policy stipulates that a veteran chaperone attend international trips for every 10 students. Even further, we will send a minimum of three staff, even if only 19 or 20 students sign up. While on site in RAK, we will be joined by UK Qualified instructors who are fist aid trained. For nearly all activities there will be two adults present for every 10 or 12 students.

How safe are the activities?

As a parent, we understand it can be daunting to send your child away for an entire week. We conduct risk assessments for every activity, and the activities are closely monitored by trained and certified staff. Top tier safety equipment is utilized. Student safety is the most important factor in planning international student travel. We pride ourselves on a great safety track record.

Where will students sleep?

We have large tented accommodation and each child will have a thick mattress and sheet provided. They will need to bring a sleeping bag and small pillow. Boys and girls will be in separate tents as standard. More information will be given in the parent meeting in this regard.

Is the food halal?

Yes! All food options provided to students are certified halal. Our travel agency has been very accommodating of students’ dietary needs for halal requirements, vegetarians, and those with specific dietary requirements. We never want students to feel hungry or unsatisfied, and we will be sure to check all food products before consumption. Students are also welcome to bring snack! They should keep everything securely wrapped to avoid any bugs or pests.

What about the visa?

Visas are ultimately the responsibility of parents and families. MKS will, upon request, provide a letter from our supporting travel agencies. All participants MUST have a valid Bahrain passport with 6 months validity from the date of travel. All Bahrain nationals must also have a valid residency in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

How much money should I send with my child?

Students do not need much spending money with them. You may send a small amount of cash for students to purchase snacks or drinks at the camp canteen.

I have airline miles. Can I book my child's flight independently?

No, students must be booked with the rest of the group through our approved travel partners. This is to ensure that all students are together and supervised at all times. This also ensures that if there are any flight delays or cancellations we can easily change tickets and make itinerary adjustments.

How do I register?

To register your child for the trip, first complete the online registration using the Online Registration link provided, or scroll to the bottom of the page. Then print and turn in the parent permission form with parent signatures, along with a copy of the student passport, CPR, and Bahrain residency (for expat families). Once your child is approved for the trip, we will reach out to you by email so that you may pay the fees to the MKS Finance Office .

Challenging Adventure Educational Objectives

Physical Education

Let's Move!

Our students need to engage in stimulating and rigorous physical activity in a structured environment. This trip will help students develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities individually and in teams.

Cross-Curricular Connections

Let's Learn!

There are a variety of curricular connections from the classroom to the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah, especially including concepts of human geography, history, and the sciences.

The MKS Mission

Let's Think Big!

One component of the MKS mission is Global-Mindedness. We encourage all students to travel internationally, learn about new places, and return home with a new appreciation for Bahrain and its place in the world.

Well-Rounded Individuals

Let's be Awesome!

In grade 8, students need to step outside their comfort zone, build important social skills, and recognize the benefits of being active. This trip will help them develop resilience, self-reliance, and independence!
